Something Missing? If you would like to see something listed on this site, or on this page, send an e-mail to webmaster@shpna.org and tell us your idea. Please provide details as to where we can find the information you would like to see posted. Better yet, write a little something and send it in. Your neighbors will appreciate your efforts! Proper credit will be given.

Add a date to the S/HPNA calendar The S/HPNA calendar will list all association events as well as important civic and social events happening in the neighborhood. If you know of an event that you don't see listed here, please send an e-mail to calendar@shpna.org. Include a paragraph description, the date and time and any relevant contact information.

Traffic is an ongoing concern in our neighborhood. S/HPNA has been working with law enforcement and the City to mitigate traffic issues for years, but the neighborhood needs to continue to monitor flow and report any problems.

If you have a problem the first the first thing to do is collect some basic information and communicate with your neighbors. Determine where exactly the problem exists (e.g., on Shasta Avenue between Dana and Park), record the time of day the problem tends to happen and note how often it occurs. After collecting this basic information, contact your neighbors and discuss the issue to see if there is a larger problem (the S/HPNA Talk e-mail chat group is an excellent way to communicate with your neighbors).

The next step is to pass along all your data to law enforcement and ask for their assistance. Law enforcement solutions should be pursued before contacting City officials. The presence of law enforcement will solve many traffic issues and it is difficult to justify other solutions until the police have been given time to address the concern. The SJPD's Traffic Enforcement Unit can be reached at the number listed below. The City's DOT NASCOP (233k PDF) photo radar system is also an excellent program to catch speeders. Please also notify S/HPNA's Traffic Calming Committee of your problem so they can monitor and assist.

If law enforcement is unable to solve the problem contact the City's Department of Transportation for other possible solutions. James Bittner is the Civil Engineer responsible for our area. He can be reached at the number listed below.
