Tips for reporting:
While San José remains "The Safest Big City in America," the Police need the community's partnership as their eyes and ears.
Call 311 (or 277-8900 from a cell phone) anytime you see suspicious activity. When reporting, explain to the dispatcher why it seemed suspicious to you. Neighbors know the area and who should be around even better than San José's Finest. Although it is helpful to the Police, you do not have to provide your name when calling in a report.
If there is a crime in progress, call 911 immediately. (If you are on a cell phone in San José, call (408) 277-8911 to be connected to San José Dispatch, otherwise your call is routed to a CHP central unit less equipped to respond immediately to local issues.) Do not put yourself in harm's way.
