Letter to Mayor dated August 27, 2007
Dear Honorable Mayor and Members of City Council:
As the process of updating the General Plan proceeds forward, members of the Shasta Hanchett Park
Neighborhood Association would like to express our interest in being a part of contributing to a plan that takesinto account all aspects of land use and development proposals and that will consider the well thought out and
supported Master Plans and Specific Plans, which have already been adopted by Council for our district. As our
community grows and expands with each new development taking place, it is important to follow the guidelines
of past studies and plans to maintain the vibrancy and livability that we all strive for.
We respectfully request that the time has come that any further development within the boundaries of the Midtown Specific Plan be reviewed comprehensively for an economically sound ratio of residential to
commercial/industrial use and that any development along any transit corridor designated property be
extensively reviewed for its effectiveness. The most appropriate course of action would be for this review to
take place during the General Plan update.
To this end, we request that the City Council take into account all Specific Plans, Master Plans and Adopted
polices when considering any changes to the General Plan. We believe a comprehensive approach is necessary
to prevent political gaming where people would merely choose the plan most convenient to their project rather
than follow the General Plan. Not reconciling the various plans will effectively mute any General Plan updates
made in our area. It is our goal as a neighborhood organization to encourage vibrant business districts and
preservation of our historic neighborhoods that encourage our residents and future residents to grow and put
down roots. For us to be successful, and for the city to reach its goals, the various plans must be reconciled.
We understand this process is not simple but we believe together we can work together on our goal to creative
viable and livable communities.
Sincerely,
The Board of Directors,
Shasta Hanchett Park Neighborhood Association
