Volunteer! Make a difference in the neighborhood and the community. We're looking for volunteers to help with everything from holding social events to stamping out graffiti, from planting trees to forming committees to address various issues. See something we need to address? Join the team and lead the effort! Even if you only have a few available hours each month, your neighbors will appreciate your efforts. For more information on the opportunities to volunteer with S/HPNA, contact us at volunteer@shpna.org.

What is S/HPNA?
The Shasta / Hanchett Park Neighborhood Association (S/HPNA) is a volunteer-based community organization founded in 1985 to protect and advance the interests of the Shasta/Hanchett Park, St. Leo's, Garden Alameda, and Cahill Park neighborhoods in San Jose California. S/HPNA provides and promotes programs and activities aimed at building community and fostering civic involvement in this diverse community.

S/HPNA's purpose is to:

  • Preserve and enhance the physical and aesthetic environment within the Community;
  • Maintain and improve property values and a sense of pride and identity in the Community; and
  • Serve as a mechanism for communication and advocacy within the Community and beyond.

How do I join/renew?
Membership in S/HPNA is open to anyone who subscribes to and supports the purposes of the Association. Membership dues are payable annually in January through our secure online PayPal service or by mailing a check.

When does S/HPNA meet?
S/HPNA has a variety of meetings, all open to members, including monthly Board meetings, commitee meetings, quarterly Association meetings, and the Annual Membership Meeting. Check the S/HPNA Calendar for the most current information.

Does S/HPNA have a newsletter?
In the association has published a newsletter on and off in its 20+ year history. With the Rose Garden Resident covering many news items in the neighborhood and the acceptance of Web technology, S/HPNA is phasing out lengthy print materials in favor of smaller mailers and a more robust website. In early 2007 S/HPNA's website will be built-out to serve as an electronic newsletter with areas where members can make contributions. The association will continue its e-Bulletin, a members-only e-mail newsletter that goes out every month. S/HPNA also sponsors S/HPNA Talk, an e-mail based community discussion list.

How do I get involved with S/HPNA?
We are always looking for new members and volunteers! Attend our meetings, join a committee, or volunteer on with project or event.
